Finally we‘re ready, we were planning for months already. First it was just a vague bunch of crazy talk, a hazy idea, which was not new to both of us. But it seemed like this long-cherished dream had a stronger appeal than we might have thought and so this wild idea that we first only discussed in jolly mood became a firm intention that bond us together stronger than we could have guessed when we first met in 2014.
We bought our ticket to the world for only 200€. We would have loved to start our journey from home, without getting on a plane, but the desire to get going became way too strong to resist, our restlessness and curiosity prevailed at last. Another winter in Germany, another six months of waiting? No, we had been waiting for too long already. We had to start now, otherwise we might have never done it at all. 200€ seems to be a pretty small price to pay to pass the gateway to the world, especially if you start a journey of this extent, but nonetheless those 200€ hurt us in different ways. We shouldn’t have spent this money, because we know that such a ridiculous price for such a long flight is always at the expense of the earth and should have been avoided at any cost. Because of this unfortunate onset we plan our intuitive and almost haphazard travels on condition that this flight bringing us to Thailand is supposed to be our last flight.
Ultimately it’s not only our curiosity for the countless beauties nature has to offer, the endless vastnesses and a special kind of freedom that the adaption to our work-orientated, egocentric society denies, it is the longing to discover or re-discover new ethics and values for ourselves that we miss in our daily lives and that more and more fellow human beings seem to lack today. People in our first-world societies have everything they need, nevertheless so many people are unsatisfied, unhappy and always in search of something better that they already have. This seems to have become the thrust of our modern society, a never ending quest for happiness that people now perform blindfolded and in circles.
Now we want to break free, we want to be courageous and start to look for our key to happiness in places for which our hearts have been yearning for all these years: into the world, without a conceived plan, a journey without a scheduled ending. The ultimate idea of freedom to us. We want to meet people who grew up with so much less than we consider as the bare minimum and who are still starting their days optimistic and in a good mood with whom we can laugh, cry and feel. Moreover we want to give those people something that our industrialised countries refuse to give to them. A helping hand, a voice and attention.
Another aspect we want to see with our own eyes to understand its extent is the destruction of the worlds’ beautiful nature that we are impairing with our inconsiderate and reckless consumption and no longer close our eyes to the effects that our modern life has on other countries and other parts of the world. In the end the purpose of this journey is not only to loosen the hobble of the repetitive jog of everyday life, we want to learn and we want to grow. We want to learn, what other cultures can teach us about their coexistence, learn to live with fewer materialistic things, but most of all we want to learn how to cherish life, instead of always waiting for a moment in time that probably never comes.
All of this sounds so much more nobel than it actually is, we are also contributing to all of the bad things that happen in the world by so many inconsiderate actions that we don’t regard as internationally remarkable. We do not want to design a manual on how to life your life, we do not want to set an example for a way of living that seems to be the better one for us. Everything that we want is to give you the opportunity to go on a journey with two completely imperfect people that might change our way to see the world entirely. A roller coaster ride through the biggest theme park there is: our planet earth!
So if we were able to arouse your interest, hop in, fasten your seatbelts and be excited for a ride which is gonna take us to so many amazing places that we are about to see in the next few months. Thank you for riding with us!
